I've been thinking about this one a lot too... I've got my mildly damaged Z3 1.9 here with the quick rack on it, and my 3.0 M3.

Thing is though, when I took the M3 out at Oulton the other week, I wasn't turning the wheel more than 90-degrees at any point... so I'm struggling to see the need for the quicker rack.

It is (was) a lot easier to catch a slide in the Z3, but I wonder if that's more down to the limited power it's putting out when compared to the M3

I dunno, but at the moment I'm swaying towards not bothering!

Don't know about an E46 rack but the Z3 rack on my M3 Evo is absolutely amazing on track, a quick turn and the car reacts accordingly to compensate the oversteer 8) .

Max, swap the Z3 item for a boggo e36 rack from a breaker. Then you can swap between the two on the M3 if you don't like it.

I've thought about that... but it's gotta be a lot of work to swap the racks over! :( A bit much for me I think...

Pooky mentioned there are pre and post 2002 racks, the pre 2002 being the slower but how slow? i have 3.0 m3 with factory rack. will the pre 2002 rack be any quicker than the 3.0 m3 and do away with the variable turn.

just like to add the pre 2002 e46 racks are 45.5 mm/rev - same as evo as mentioned plenty of the m about and cheap incase you need to replace the rack on your m3 with standard ratio one.

I've got one, it's £1800 and comes with a free damaged Z3.

Roll up, roll up (and maybe I won't get any more messages about it now!)

I just picked up a Z3 rack from Howard car spares in Hayling Island for £70.50. It seems they are not aware of quite how sought after they are!!

They only had one in stock but worth checking with them from time to time....until they realise!!
